OVERVIEW
Packaging applications use thermoplastic elastomers for closures, cap liners, resealable seals and protective inserts - parts that must compress to seal and recover when reopened. TPE liners and seals are moulded rather than cured, so they can be produced at packaging cycle rates and reground at end of line. Any component that contacts food, beverage or pharmaceutical product requires a separately certified compound and migration testing.

Are FARRPRENE grades food-contact approved?
- No. The standard catalogue is not certified for food contact. A food, beverage or pharmaceutical packaging component needs a compound certified against the applicable regulation, such as EU 10/2011 or FDA 21 CFR, together with migration testing for the specific contact conditions. Contact us to qualify a compound.
What hardness is used for a bottle cap liner?
- Cap liners and sealing discs typically use 20 to 35 Shore A. The compound must compress enough to seal at the closure torque the filling line applies, then recover so the seal still works after reopening.
Why use TPE instead of rubber for closures?
- TPE liners are moulded at packaging cycle rates with no vulcanisation step, scrap can be reground, and colour is easy to control. Cured rubber liners require curing time and cannot be reprocessed.
Can FARRPRENE grades be colour-matched?
- Yes. Unfilled (translucent) grades give the cleanest colour reproduction and are the usual base for a colour match to a customer reference. Filled (natural) grades can also be pigmented, with a slightly more muted result.
