OVERVIEW
In construction, thermoplastic elastomers are used for extruded sealing profiles, glazing gaskets, expansion-joint seals and waterproofing components: parts that must compress against a mating surface, recover, and keep doing so through thermal movement. TPE profiles are extruded rather than cured, so they can be produced continuously, welded at corners and reprocessed. FARRPRENE extrusion grades cover the soft compression band used for glazing and weather seals through to firmer grades for moulded spacers and fittings.

Are TPE seals suitable for outdoor construction use?
- UV-stabilised grades are formulated for external exposure and are the correct starting point for any profile that sees sunlight. Real service life depends on the exposure, the colour and the section geometry, so an outdoor profile should be qualified against its actual duty cycle rather than assumed from the datasheet.
What hardness is used for a glazing gasket?
- Glazing and compression gaskets typically use 20 to 45 Shore A. The design target is the softest compound that still recovers fully under the working compression, because a softer seal transmits less load into the glass and frame.
Can TPE profiles be welded at corners?
- Yes. Because thermoplastic elastomers re-melt, extruded profiles can be heat-welded at corners and joints, which is not possible with vulcanised rubber sections.
Do FARRPRENE grades carry a fire rating?
- No fire or flammability rating is published for the standard catalogue. Applications with a flame-retardancy requirement such as UL 94 or a building-code classification need a separately formulated and tested compound. Contact us to qualify one.
Can FARRPRENE grades be colour-matched?
- Yes. Unfilled (translucent) grades give the cleanest colour reproduction and are the usual base for a colour match to a customer reference. Filled (natural) grades can also be pigmented, with a slightly more muted result.
